Don't block the faux followers... for now.

Yes they are stupid, distracting and some social media firm's "I will get you 10,000 followers" game. But they can help you build your REAL Twitter base of relationships. 

Twitter has a 2,000 follower cap - until you build up a ratio of people following you. Just leave the spam. After you build your base past the 2,000 caveat - block them and report them.

I do NOT suggest following them back. 

 

Yeah yeah yeah. And I like raindrops and roses and whiskers on kittens. 

Go to hell, Klout. I don't need your manufactured stress.

I know many people are digging Klout, but I am officially disengaging myself. It's a money maker for some company that is trying to feed on my vanity. Obviously, judging by this photo on my homepage, I have no vanity.

What the final straw was it sent me an alert email to go see the screen below. I have plenty of REAL “Oh no!” in my world, thank you. I am not playing your game. 

I will create my own clout. And Photoshop my own Klout.

Twitter (and a sales person's good SoMe skills) drove my marketing automation choice.

I asked my Tweeps what they suggested for setting up a complete marketing automation process.

I got a couple practical responses (thank you.)  But of more interest, I got a call from a sales person who “saw my Tweet.”  He got the sale even though his compnay was never discussed in the Tweet thread. He had his TweetDeck set up for his competiors' @handle. 

 

FYI: I am going with Salesforce with and Act-On marcom integration. Both were the right scale for my needs.

It doesn't take much effort to thrill a follower (or a nutty fan) within social media. Cool kats and smart brands understand that.

The simple one-click "engagement" of Lou Read "liking" my joke on his Facebook page made my day. I then queued up a boatload of his songs AND went to his new website. His ROI? - a revitalized fan. 

 

 

Ohhh such a perfect day. I'm glad I spent it with Lou. 

Twitter: you get what you pay for.

Obviously, I love using Twitter and find it an excellent true Social Network and content distribution channel. (dang fun too). But I don't pay for it.

Thus... I cannot depend in it for my material or regulatory messages. I still need a mix.

 

OUCH. Let me know how “Tweeting your 8:30 earnings call” worked out. 

 

Don't confuse "I accept your LinkedIn request" with "Please, start selling to me."

Same with any SoMe followers. Acceptence in a network ONLY means "perhaps you may be interesting to me... let's see how you do."

 

Remember, the act of unfollowing is the same... one simple click.

Treat your digital network EXACTLY like your treat your "analog" network.

Would you walk up to a stranger at a party, stand directly in front of them and start spewing your pitch? A digital network works the same. People buy from people, whether online or infrontofyou.

 

The idiom “you never get a second chance to make a first impression” is always true. 

 

Tweeps are not Hummels to be collected and placed on a shelf. They are partnerships.

There is nothing strategic about collecting followers (in any social media portal) for collecting sake. Consider each and every one as a mini-business relationship. And smart relationships are two-way.

 

Note: a business relationship does NOT have to be based on revenue. It can be based on many factors – sharing ideas, sharing laughs and helping one-another.

You already ARE your personal brand. The web merely documents and distributes it.
